You've received your results! Congratulations on completeing the recent exam season!

 

What happens if you have a question about your exam result?

If you have received your examination results and are concerned about a result, there are a number of post-results services available.

The appropriate service will depend on the circumstances and what you would like the awarding organisation to check.

 

If a pupils wishes to request a review and the school does not feel that there are grounds for this, then the cost of the review must be paid for by the pupil, before we can request the review.

  • Pupils are strongly advised to discuss any concerns with the appropriate Directors of subjects before making a formal request for a review of marking.

  • It is important to note that very few reviews of marking requests result in a change of grade, with the majority showing the original marking to be accurate.
  • Please note that the costs shown on the sheet in your envelope are per paper, not per subject. For example, Maths was made up of three papers, so to review all three papers it would cost £120.

If you're unhappy about an exam results, you can ask the school to complete a review of your results, this could be a clerical re-check or review of marking or you can request the marked paper ('access to scripts').
If the school do not feel their are grounds for a review of the script and pupils still want to, against our advice, they can go ahead at their own cost.

School Funded Application

If you are within 3 Marks of the Grade Boundary above, the school may be willing to fund the application. On results day your envelope may have a Purple Star or a PRS Stamp - this means that the school have identified one of your results being 3 Marks away from the Grade Boundary above. The process for a school funded application is as follows:

1. Access to Scripts (ATS)
In the first instance, the Exams Team will ask the student to provide consent for the school to request a copy of their examination script through the Access to Scripts (ATS) service.

2. Department Review
Once the script has been received, the relevant subject department will review the paper to determine whether there is sufficient potential for additional marks to support a Review of Marking.

3. School-Funded Review of Marking
If the subject department believes that a Review of Marking is worthwhile, the school will fund the cost of the Review of Marking application.

4. Further Student Consent
Before the Review of Marking application is submitted, the Exams Team will require the student's further consent.

This is because, unlike Access to Scripts, a Review of Marking can result in the candidate's mark and/or grade increasing, decreasing or remaining unchanged.

 

If the subject department reviews the examination script and does not believe that a Review of Marking would be beneficial, the student still has the right to request one.

In these circumstances, if the student wishes to proceed with the Review of Marking despite the school's recommendation, the application will become self-funded.

The student/parent/carer will therefore be responsible for the applicable awarding body fee.

 

Where an application is school-funded, there will be no cost to the student or parent/carer.
