In Reception our main focus is to ensure pupils experience a smooth transition from their Nursery setting into school. The Reception year remains part of the Early Years Foundation Stage and as such, will continue to build on the good work from Nursery settings to ensure strong foundations for learning are in place by the time pupils enter Year 1. We value every child and recognise that with the right support every child can become a strong and resilient learner.
Our curriculum is centred around an understanding of the importance of supporting children as they learn to form relationships, manage emotions and thrive in day to day life. We have a strong focus on developing excellent speech, language and communication skills whilst offering a vast range of learning opportunities across all areas. The use of the outdoor environment will make a significant contribution to the delivery of the curriculum. The learning environment gives children freedom to expand their knowledge and development.
There may be occasions when you need to speak with your child’s class teacher. For a brief informal query, the class teacher will be available at the end of the day once all the children have been dismissed. To arrange a formal appointment to meet with your child’s teacher please contact the school office. Staff members will always be available in the morning to pass on a message to your child’s teacher but it will not be possible to meet with teachers at this time of day.
To report an absence due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances, please contact the school office on each day of the absence. Alternatively, you can email primaryadmin@st-georgescofe-thanet.kent.sch.uk each day. Please include details of your child's name, class and the reason for absence in your message.
