Plagiarism
As we come towards the end of the current PSA and coursework window, I need your support in reminding pupils that work submitted must be their own.
We have had an increased number of pupils who are trying to submit work that is potentially copied from the internet, textbooks, or other resources, including other pupils work. The use of AI is also becoming a concern as pupils are using this technology to complete written tasks for them.
If staff members suspects that the work submitted is not the pupils, as it does not reflect their normal work, pupils will be challenged in regard to plagiarism.
Please remind pupils that plagiarism is classed by examination boards as malpractice, which can result in pupils receiving a 0 for that piece of work. This will have huge implications on the pupil’s overall grade. Examination boards are also able to disqualify pupils from the whole qualification, due to malpractice, following investigations.
Pupils can continue to reference other people work, in sections of their own, however, this must be referenced correctly.
Examination boards use several different pieces of software that are designed to identify plagiarism, therefore, it is important that pupils do not run the risk and must ensure the work submitted is their own.
If you have any questions/queries, please do not hesitate to contact the examinations officer by email.
Absent from Exams
Pupils are required to attend all of their examinations and ensure that they arrive on time. If there is any reason why they are unable to attend the examination please contact the school immediately. If a pupil fails to attend an examination for no reason then you will be charged the entry fee of that examination. This includes family holidays, weddings or personal arrangements i.e. medical appointments. However, if they are missed due to being unwell, a doctor’s note is required by the Exam Boards. The Exam Boards may accept other serious exceptional circumstances beyond the control of the candidate, provided evidence is given.

Contingency Day
The last exam is dated Friday 18th June 2026, though all pupils must be available on Wednesday 23rd June which is a contingency date set aside by the Exam Board.
The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) have announced a contingency day for the summer exams series 2027. The date that has been set aside as the ‘contingency day’ is WEDNESDAY 23rd JUNE 2025.
The contingency day for ALL external examinations has been put in place “in the event of widespread, sustained national or local disruption to examination during the Summer 2027 examination series”.
Therefore, in the event of a major disruption, JCQ and/or the relevant Awarding Bodies may decide to postpone an exam to another date in the summer exam series. This means that any students sitting external examinations in summer 2027 must be available until Wednesday 23rd June 2027 to sit any exams that had to be postponed.
