Behaviour Expectations
EXPECTATIONS
Pupils at St George’s are asked to be Ready to Learn where we celebrate success and support children to overcome mistakes. This is clearly shown in each classroom with our Ready to Learn poster.
READY TO LEARN
The expectation is for every child to demonstrate our values and to strive to always be ready to learn. In school the children recognise this as always, always, always - making the correct choices.
On many occasions our children go above and beyond this expectation and are duly rewarded through our achievement system. At primary children receive 3 achievement logs in recognition for going above and beyond. This may be for effort, academic achievement or for demonstrating our school or British values.
Sometimes children make mistakes and we provide opportunities to put this right through reflection and practice. The clear steps for putting it right are:
- Apologise to relevant staff or pupils using restorative justice.
- Demonstrate improved behaviour
- If no improvement in behaviour is then the next step is a parental conversation and/or SLT intervention.
Behaviour Logs
For isolated or persistent behaviour incidents B-logs will be issued and parents will be informed of this by staff. This results in one of the A-logs being lost. Some examples of when B-logs will be issued are:
- Verbal or physical unkindness to pupils or staff
- Fighting
- Defiance and rudeness to adults
- Racism
- Damage to school or other’s property.
This list is not exhaustive and the most serious forms of poor behaviour can result in suspension and exclusion.
Behaviour Sanctions
In addition to a B-log being issued there will usually be a sanction put in place as a consequence of the poor behaviour.
Sanctions issued may include:
- Quiet time out to reflect, consider next steps and put it right
- Isolation at playtime or for periods of the school day
- Time within the Nurture provision
- Lunchtime detention (parents informed)
- Half day internal isolation including breaktime under supervision of SLT (parents informed)
- Full day internal isolation including breaktime and lunchtime under supervision of SLT (parents informed)
- 30 minutes, after school detention under supervision of SLT (parents informed)
